Hello, i'm developing a VSTO-Addin for Word 2007/2010 which can automatically export all documents of a serial letter (mail merge) to a pdf-File. My datasource is a xlsx-file with 1000 datasets (this is just a testfile with 1000 rows - all rows have the same values extended with a counter). After exporting about 800 (of 1000) documents i get the following exception: - System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80004005): Unerwarteter Fehler beim Exportieren.
Hi Tobias All indications are that you're hitting a resource problem with Word. Interesting, that it always hits a 800 limit. I'm curious: if you leave out the Export, but just step through all the records (SetActiveRecord) does this go all the way through, or does it stop at 800? (I'm trying to narrow down where the bottle-neck is.) If you are hitting a Word limitation, then about the only thing you can do is divide up the merge into multiple sets of n records. If you're lucky, you could do this by changing the query without closing the Word document (and possibly also the Word application, depending on what it takes to shake this loose.) Cindy Meister, VSTO/Word MVP. Hi Cindy, i tested more scenarios and i think i got closer to the root of the problem;) The problems seems to be the 'total amount of exported PDF pages (!!!)' and not the amount of exported pdf files. Hi Tobias I agree with you that this appears to be a bug.
But the bug isn't in the Word APIs - it's in the 'end-user package'. So the more appropriate place to try reporting this would be on Answers: I can try sending an email to someone I know, but that's a totally inofficial channel so, if anything at all happens, it will just get the bug in the database to get fixed. It won't bring anything in the way of workarounds. The only suggestion I can make to 'get you going' would be to break down the 'batch' into 'bite sized pieces' and close Word in between pieces.
I haven't seen a problem of this sort (memory leak) since Word 6/95, but in this kind of situation that's about all you can do. Cindy Meister, VSTO/Word MVP. Hi Cindy, thanks for your help! If you could ask someone 'inofficial' that would be nice. Maybe he knows this problem already. Because this is no VSTO-bug I also postet this in a german microsoft office forum ' ' In this forum one person wrote that on his machine everything works fine but his office 2010 is full patched (with every available patch?). He opened a document with 2006 pages (with plenty text and tables) and could save it ten times as pdf without a problem.
So maybe there is already a bugfix, but i just don't know which one this could be;) I installed SP1 and used 'windows update' to patch my office version - without success. My current version is ' Microsoft Word 2010 (14.0.6024.1000) SP1 MSO(14.0.6106.5005)'. I will post this problem on the forum you posted. Thanks a lot!
